How To Make a DIY Fresh Christmas Wreath

How To Make a DIY Fresh Christmas Wreath

A fresh Christmas wreath looks beautiful, smells amazing and instantly makes your front door feel festive. It is also much easier to make than it looks. Once you gather your greenery and set up your wreath form, the whole project comes together in a simple rhythm of layering and wrapping. Below is a beginner-friendly guide you can follow to make a gorgeous DIY Fresh Christmas Wreath.

Materials:

  • Work gloves (optional but helpful)
  • A wire wreath form (size of your choice)
  • Floral wire (22-gauge works nicely)
  • Fresh greenery clippings: e.g. fir, spruce, pine, juniper (mix of textures)
  • Fresh eucalyptus bundles
  • Optional embellishments: bells, ribbon, fabric strip, pinecones
  • Pruning shears or hedge trimmers

Step 1: Gather Your Greenery

Clip a mix of evergreen branches in lengths between eight and twelve inches.

This gives you enough room to layer them without looking messy.

Sort them into small piles so you can mix the textures as you go.

Gather more than you think you need. A wreath always looks better when it is full.

Step 2: Attach the Base Layer

Lay the wreath form flat on a table.

Place the first bundle of greenery along the frame with the stems pointing in the same direction.

Wrap floral wire around the stems and the frame to secure them.

Keep moving around the form and overlap each bundle slightly. This creates the structure that holds everything in place.

Keep doing this process so your wreath becomes full.

Step 3: Add More Layers for Fullness

Take your other greenery types and weave them into the base layer.

Add the lighter pieces on top so they are more visible.

Secure each piece of greenery with floral wire.

Every few minutes step back and check the shape. If one area looks thin, add a little extra to even it out.

Step 4: Add the Eucalyptus

Place eucalyptus stems where you want a soft highlight.

The color shift makes the wreath look more natural and handmade.

Tuck each stem into a gap and wrap the wire to hold it.

Spread them out evenly so the wreath feels balanced.

You can add some dried orange slices for extra festive scent!

Step 5: Add Ribbon or Bells

Choose one embellishment or a small combination to add to your DIY Fresh Christmas Wreath.

A ribbon tied at the bottom or a cluster of golden bells on one side works well.

Secure the decorations with wire so they stay in place outdoors. Keep it simple.

A fresh wreath looks best when the greenery is the star.

Step 6: Trim and Hang Your DIY Fresh Christmas Wreath

Shake the wreath gently to settle everything.

Trim any long stems that stick out.

Create a small loop of wire on the back so you can hang it easily.

Place it on a hook or wreath hanger and adjust the front if needed.

Your fresh Christmas wreath is ready.
